Dhaka Metro Rail authorities have said that if a passenger enters the station by scanning their card but exits without starting the journey, they will be fined Tk 100. Previously, if you left the station within five minutes of entering, you would not be charged any fare. The new rules do not allow this. The rules came into effect from October 20. Notices have also been posted at metrorail stations.
An official at Karwan Bazar station, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “From now on, you will not be able to enter the station and exit without paying a fare. This rule came into effect yesterday.”
Faruk Ahmed, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), which is responsible for the construction and operation of the Dhaka Metrorail, said he does not yet know the details of the new rules. However, he mentioned the importance of Metrorail safety. The DMTCL notice states, “For the information of esteemed passengers, it is hereby informed that entry-exit without fare at the same station has been stopped. If you enter and exit at the same station, a fare of Tk 100 will be deducted.”
So you have to pay a fine even if you enter the station and do not board the metro rail for this new rule.
