Next parliamentary elections to be held by February 15: Shafiqul Alam

The next national elections will be held by February 15, 2026, as per the schedule announced by the interim government. Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor, reaffirmed this on Friday. Although there are differences of opinion among political parties on this issue.

While visiting the ancestral home of renowned poet Farrukh Ahmed in Sreepur Upazila of Magura, Shafiqul Alam reiterated the interim government’s announcement regarding the date of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

According to him, political diversity is a natural aspect of a democratic system. The press secretary of the chief advisor said, it is very natural to have differences of opinion among political parties. If there were not, then there would be no separate parties.

At the same time, he reiterated that the elections will be held on time. Shafiqul Alam also assured that there is no possibility of the elections being postponed. He also warned of strict resistance to any attempt to disrupt the electoral process.

The press secretary said that as per the interim government’s promise, the elections will be held in the first half of February. No conspiracy to sabotage this process will succeed.

Highlighting the importance of the upcoming elections, the Press Secretary termed them a ‘cornerstone election’. According to him, it will determine the future political course of the country.

He said, “This election will not only determine the future of the government, but will also lay the foundation for the next elections and the country’s overall political system.”
