Nepal gets its fast female Prime Minister, Sushila Karki takes oath

Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has made history by becoming the country’s first female prime minister by taking oath as the interim prime minister of Nepal. She took the oath of office at 9 pm local time on Friday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Nepal. President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath to him.

After a long Protest against anti-corruption finally Nepal gets its fast female Prime Minister. Nepal’s first female Chief Justice Sushila Karki takes charge as head of the country’s interim government.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government has fallen in three days of protests in Nepal over social media bans and anger over corruption. Then on Wednesday, the protesters seemed to have reached an agreement to make Karki the new prime minister. But within 24 hours, there were reports of disagreements among the protesters.

It is heard that many of the protesters are seeking the post of Prime Minister for Engineer Kulman Ghising, who became popular after solving Nepal’s electricity crisis. The protesters also proposed his name in a statement. The emergence of Kulman’s name created some uncertainty. And even before that, after the fall of the Oli government, the name of Balendra Shah, the independent mayor of the capital Kathmandu and popular rapper, was initially heard. But the 35-year-old Shah was not interested in becoming prime minister. Instead, he openly supported Karki.

Sushila Karki, 72 years old, was the first female Chief Justice of Nepal. She held the position from 2016 to 2017. That too was history. Now, the Himalayan country of Nepal is witnessing another piece of history. Gen-Z (younger generation) – Sushila Karki is popular among those under whose leadership the KP Sharma Oli government’s movement collapsed.

She is known for his honesty, fairness, impartiality, and credibility. She is especially popular for his tough stance against corruption.

However, his judicial career was not without its challenges. Within a year of taking office, impeachment proceedings were initiated against him, which were widely seen as politically motivated. They were ultimately defeated under pressure from public opinion. However, the incident disappointed Karki and he later resigned from the post.

Now, he faces a bigger challenge. Karki has been tasked with organizing elections amid the volatile situation in Nepal after the fall of the Oli government in the Gen-Z movement.
